The Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Prof. Ohene Adjei, who is concurrently accredited to the Republic of Latvia, participated in the Working Visit of the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to Latvia from 1–3 February 2026. The visit underscored Ghana’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Latvia while safeguarding the welfare and dignity of Ghanaian nationals abroad. On the margins of the visit, H.E. Prof. Ohene Adjei took the opportunity to present copies of his Letters of Credence to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.


During the visit, the Honourable Minister held high-level engagements with Latvian authorities, including a bilateral meeting with H.E. Ms Baiba Braže, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, during which issues of mutual interest between the two countries were discussed. At the meeting, the Latvian side assured the Government of Ghana of its full cooperation in the pursuit of truth and justice regarding the tragic death of a Ghanaian student, Mr. Nana Adjei Ahyia, in Riga.


The programme also featured meetings with the Ministries of the Interior, Education and Science, as well as engagements with key private-sector institutions in the areas of ICT, energy, agro-business and innovation, aimed at strengthening economic and technical cooperation.
The presence of H.E. Prof. Ohene Adjei throughout the visit reinforced the Embassy’s active role in advancing Ghana–Latvia relations and supporting high-level diplomatic engagements. The visit further demonstrated Ghana’s proactive diplomatic approach to addressing consular matters, enhancing political dialogue, and exploring mutually beneficial partnerships, while reaffirming the Government of Ghana’s unwavering commitment to protecting its citizens overseas.
