Countries of Concurrent Accreditation
The Embassy of Ghana in Berlin is proud to serve as the point of diplomatic and consular relations for several countries in the Baltic region, namely Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. These three countries, each with a rich history and unique cultural heritage, share strong ties with Ghana, rooted in mutual respect and cooperation.
Latvia
Latvia is one of the three Baltic states located in Northern Europe. It is bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia to the east, Belarus to the southeast, and the Baltic Sea to the west. The capital city, Riga, is known for its beautiful Art Nouveau architecture and a well-preserved medieval old town. Latvia regained its independence from the Soviet Union on August 21, 1991.
Diplomatic Relations with Ghana
Ghana established diplomatic relations with Latvia on March 18, 1993. Since then, both nations have engaged in various bilateral discussions and collaborations, particularly in areas such as education, trade, and cultural exchange. The Embassy in Berlin oversees and facilitates these relations, ensuring the continued strengthening of ties between the two countries.
Lithuania
Lithuania, the southernmost of the Baltic states, is bordered by Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, Poland to the south, and Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast to the southwest. The capital, Vilnius, is renowned for its baroque architecture, especially in its medieval old town. Lithuania declared independence from the Soviet Union on March 11, 1990, becoming the first Soviet republic to do so.
Diplomatic Relations with Ghana
Diplomatic relations between Ghana and Lithuania were indeed established on October 5, 1991. The two countries have since explored opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, including trade, education, and technology. The Embassy in Berlin plays a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing these bilateral ties, supporting both governmental and private sector initiatives.
Estonia
Estonia is the northernmost of the three Baltic states, sharing borders with Latvia to the south, Russia to the east, and the Baltic Sea to the west and north. Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, is famous for its well-preserved medieval architecture and its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Estonia regained its independence from the Soviet Union on August 20, 1991.
Diplomatic Relations with Ghana
The diplomatic relationship between Ghana and Estonia was established on November 11, 2004. Since then, both countries have worked together in various areas of mutual interest, including information technology, e-governance, and education. The Embassy in Berlin is dedicated to fostering these relations, ensuring continuous engagement and cooperation between Ghana and Estonia.
