The Ambassador

Professor Ohene Adjei is a Ghanaian biomedical scientist and academic who has been appointed as Ambassador of Ghana to the Federal Republic of Germany. He was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama in June 2025. He was formally sworn in on 4 September 2025.
Professor Adjei has over three decades of experience in biomedical science, research, health and education. He has served as Chief Executive of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, a leading health facility in Ghana. He was a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he rose to full professor in 2005. He has also been Deputy Director at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR), an institution with German funding and partnerships.
Professor Adjei studied at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and worked at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. He is fluent in German and English, and he also speaks Twi. Within Ghana, he has served on the former National Council for Tertiary Education (now the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission), chairing its Education Committee. In addition to his academic and administrative roles, he is politically active: he is a member of the National Democratic Congress.
His appointment as Ambassador to Germany is seen as leveraging his scientific, academic, administrative and linguistic credentials, as well as his established ties with Germany, to strengthen bilateral relations in scientific, cultural and economic matters.
