The Ambassador
Her Excellency Gina Ama Blay is a diplomat, who is Ghana’s Ambassador to The Federal Republic of Germany with concurrent accreditation to the three Baltic States, namely, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, since June 2017. Additionally, she also has oversight of Ghana’s activities in the UN Climate Change Secretariat, which is based in Bonn, as well as the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), whose office is based in Hamburg.
Before her government appointment, Gina was a private media practitioner with over 30 years of work experience and company management roles. She has served on several corporate boards, including Ghana Telecom, Makola Marketing Company Limited, Ghana News Agency, National Media Commission, World Association of Newspapers, and Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). In a distinguished career, she has held various positions, including Public Relations Officer (Prices & Incomes Board) and Public Relations Manager, Achimota Brewery Company.
She is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in English & Philosophy in 1979. Gina also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communications from the School of Communication Studies, Legon. She recently graduated with an MA in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy from the University of Furtwangen in Germany.
While serving her career in the media, Gina was the President of the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINIPAG), a member of the Ghana Media Commission, and served as a board member of the Ghana News Agency.
She has since won many other accolades, including a Presidential Order of the Volta awarded by President J.A Kufour for meritorious service to the country. She has been honoured by the Ghana United Nations Association (GUNSA) for dedicated service and promotion of the welfare of mankind for world peace and security. Additionally, she has been a recipient of a National Award by the Ministry of Information of Ghana as the Best Public Relations Manager.
She has attended several seminars and training programmes in Ghana and overseas. She is a certified member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana, and a member of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR). Gina has had training programmes in VALCO, MDPI, and other foreign organizations.
She was part of a duty tour of the United States programme for selected women in media and politics. She also attended a training programme for journalists in Maastricht, Netherlands.
Gina Blay has chosen to work in the background of events, always maintaining an even flow of cool-headed contribution to the progress of her work and the nation at large, contributing to parliamentary democracy and the rule of law through media practice and diplomacy.
